Available at the Business & Economic School
A UM Business Management and Administration (BA) undergraduate student is an insightful entrepreneur that has acquired a broad and advanced understanding of the business world. Students in this degree will develop the knowledge necessary to manage all different areas of a company, due to their coherent, solid management skills.
OBJECTIVES
With this degree, the student’s passions, talents and skills will be identified and therefore strengthened to develop their capacity and depth. This will therefore mold an incisive, innovative leader that will be able to solve problems and make decisions in a critical and creative fashion.
COURSE CURRICULUM
The curriculum is a credit system that is composed of a core set of courses and elective ones, which students may take from any of our departments. This also includes courses from our partner international universities.
With the elective courses BA students can also learn and specialize in their different fields of interest, such as: music, agribusiness, technology, design, fashion, sports, and gastronomy, along with many others.
DOUBLE DEGREE
A standard BA degree consists of 8 academic semesters, if a student wishes to combine his BA degree with another one offered by the UM such as, Public Accounting, Economics or International Business, the student can graduate with a double degree after 10 academic semesters.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
A BA student must accomplish four professional internships to be able to graduate and receive the degree. He/she must also obtain a sufficient average between the note of the final examination and the final note of each course taken.
DIPLOMA OPTIONS
BA undergraduate students have the option to also receive a Diploma by doing a concentration on their elective courses. Students may pursue three different diplomas: Diploma in Marketing, Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Diploma in Finance.

An International Business (IB) graduate from the University of Montevideo is an interdisciplinary professional who has acquired global understanding of the Business World along with its context. You will acquire knowledge in areas such as: Foreign Trade and Logistics, Global Marketing and Strategy, and International Business Finance
OBJECTIVES
IB students will be able to understand the landscape of business in Uruguay and abroad. A newly acquired knowledge of Foreign Trade and Logistics, Global Marketing and Strategy, International Business Finance alongside other courses such as Contemporary History, Cultural Studies, and Political Thought, will broadens students’ understanding of world affairs. IB students will gain a solid grasp of another language, an expanding vision of the contemporary world, and a strong base in international business systems.
COURSE OVERVIEW

The first year within the Business & Economic School is a core curriculum for the four different degrees which include Business and Management, Economics, and Accountancy courses. Thereafter, the courses are specific to the degree with an international focus and a practical approach.
During the sixth semester all of the courses in this degree are taught in English and therefore Uruguayan students perfect their second language. They also interact with international students that are doing a semester exchange at the UM, and with professors that have international experiences.
One of the main factors that the IB degree has (and the other four do not) is the mandatory semester abroad with one of our partner universities in the seventh semester.
Also, in their last semester students must develop an entrepreneurship project with a global scope in which they apply what they have learned, and the skills they have acquired. In this final project students have the chance to demonstrate their leadership and negotiation skills, their ability to implement ideas and to make critical decisions.
INTERNSHIPS
Students must fulfill a certain amount of internships and collect different work experiences. Therefore the UM offers national and international Internships in different environments such as Industry and Commerce, Travel and Tourism, International Marketing and Private Banking, among others.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
It is required that students obtain 322 credits, 282 of which are in academic courses where they must obtain a final grade of 6 or higher in a scale of 12. And the remaining 40 credits are obtained through their internships.
DIPLOMA OPTIONS
IB students have the opportunity to focus on their elective courses in a specific area and thus obtain one of these three diplomas along with their degree when they graduate: Diploma in Marketing, Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Diploma in Finance.

An Economics graduate from the Universidad de Montevideo is a professional that is able to interpret basic market trends, shifts in national finance, and the changes in the global economy. He or she also acquires specialized research skills with the support of full-time faculty members. The academic proposal is challenging, internationally focused, and current, which helps students continue their studies in top graduate schools worldwide.
RESEARCH
The Business & Economic School has a Center for Research in Applied Economics, which is composed of a prestigious group of full-time professors as well as students that perform collaborative research. The fields of study and research include: macro and microeconomics, health, environment, family, education and poverty.
OBJECTIVES
The UM strives to offer the students within the Economics degree the necessary tools in order to make critical decisions within a business, and proper recommendations in a political economy.
ECONOMICS UM GRADUATE STUDENT PROFILE
An Economics graduate from the UM is a highly trained professional who has boldly developed both work and study skills which has therefore prepared him/her to perform well in a business or financial environment, in research and/or teaching.
Employment may be included within the following areas:
- Private Sector: Acts as a dependence factor or an external advisor in different business areas (commercial, financial, and administrative activities)

INTERNSHIPS
The Department of Internships and Career Opportunities supports students and acts as a bridge between academic training and the professional world. The course curriculum for an undergraduate in Economics includes four internships in different businesses, which provide the students with a closer approach to the labor market.
COURSE CURRICULUM
The Economics degree is based on a credit system with certain required subjects that are divided into four areas: general, specific, electives and internships. For those students who wish to can obtain a double degree (Business and Public Accounting, or Business and Economics) at the end of 10 semesters. A student may also focus on his or hers elective courses and obtain a diploma in Finances or the Diploma in Marketing.
EVALUATION
Each course within the degree is evaluated differently, and each course itself has different methods of evaluation. Most share similar activities such as: class quizzes, oral presentations, team projects, and of course they all have midterms and final exams.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
In order to be awarded the undergraduate Economics degree, the student must have completed the four internships and must have passed all of their classes with a grade higher or equal to 6, out of 12 (this is done by averaging the course grade with the grade obtained in the final exam).
DIPLOMA OPTIONS
Students studying to obtain the economics degree at the UM have the possibility to concentrate on one of their elective courses and therefore acquire a Diploma in Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, or in Finance.

A UM Public Accountant is a professional with excellent training in the fields of accounting, auditing, taxes and finance. Throughout the career he or she acquires the necessary IT skills, pivotal in their upcoming professional career. They also gain the knowledge to be able to make critical decisions, thus achieving their objectives and are then able to help improve management and maximize the economic resources within a business.
OBJECTIVES
A UM Public Accountant is a dynamic and risk-taking professional.
The UM seeks to train professionals to be proactive and determined, who are able to face challenges and adapt to constant changes in the business world. The university also aims to stimulate students to be able to start an academic and research-based career.
STUDENT PROFILE
The solid academic training the graduates receive, both theoretical and practical, makes them eligible to work as an independent consultant or to work inside an organization.
Public Accountants, if working independently, could be responsible for preparing and analyzing accounting information, advising on labor and tax related topics, elaborating and presenting investment projects or implementing information systems. As an external auditor the Accountant, make critical comments on the financial section of a company.
If Public Accountants work within a company, they must be prepared to perform managerial tasks in accounting or finance and they control areas such as financial information, costs, control systems and taxes. They mainly would be in control of the monetary resources and the relationship with financial entities, planning and drafting the financial activities of the organization and their investment decisions.
INTERNSHIPS
The work experience they must do throughout the degree will allow students to better develop social skills in the work environment and choose the area of specialization confidently when beginning their professional life.

EVALUATION
The students are evaluated in different ways to further deepen their skills. In some courses, they receive individual evaluation, through both written and oral exams. Whereas, in others, they are evaluated in group projects in order to encourage teamwork. They will also have to analyze case studies in order to strengthen their critical analysis skills.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
In order to receive the undergraduate Public Accounting degree, the student must have completed four required internships, and obtained a satisfactory final grade in each course.
DIPLOMA OPTIONS
Public Accounting students have the opportunity to focus on their elective courses and thus obtain one of the following three diplomas when they graduate: Diploma in Marketing, Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Diploma in Finance.
A UM Data Science for Business graduate is a business professional with training in the analysis of large volumes of data through the combination of strong mathematical, statistical, technological, and managerial skills. Students develop the ability to understand and interpret the vast amount of data companies generate and detect business opportunities that are often missed.

University of London degree programmes
Students with an advanced level of English can simultaneously complete a degree at the University of London. The options they can choose from are Business and Management, Banking and Finance, and Economics and Management. The University of London degree courses are taught at UM, and in four years, the University of London degree is awarded in addition to the UM degree.
The subject content is under the academic responsibility of LSE (London School of Economics and Political Science), one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the world.
UM has an examination pass rate above the global average.
As a Civil Engineer at UM, you will be able to design and construct buildings, bridges, hydraulic works, railways, airports environmental treatment systems, etc.

DEGREE IN CYBERSECURITY
This course will give you the ability to identify, assess and mitigate cybersecurity risks, as well as implement solutions.
DEGREE IN DATA SCIENCE
You will be able to make better decisions based on data analysis. You will learn the tools for analyzing and modeling information in frequently changing environments. You will also be able to implement business analytics solutions.
Telematic Engineering is a modern branch of engineering that focuses on the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
As a telematics engineer at UM, you will learn different programming languages, how to develop

automation and you will understand the different mechanisms of wired or wireless networks.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities is a 4-year course. Depending on the number of elective courses you take in your specific focus and the arrangement of the elective courses offered during each semester, the total length of the course can change.
The degree is organized into two stages, each consisting of 4 semesters: the general stage and the stage of your specialization. The general stage aims at an all-round and novel university-level education through subjects related to the fields of philosophy, history, art, and literature. At the end of this stage, the students obtains an intermediate certificate from UM, the diploma in Art and Culture. In the stage of your specific specialization, students can choose between Philosophy and History.

The Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpretation provides training to students in the principal areas of translation and interpreting in English and in Spanish. It offers three specializations: Public Translator, Technical-Scientific Translator and Literary Translator.
Course Overview
This undergraduate degree is completed in four years, with a common cycle and three options for professional specialization: public translator, techno-scientific translator, and literary translator.
The study plan can be found adapted to the present demands of the labor market. Beyond traditional formation, you will gain an skills in the areas of technology related to translation: audiovisual translation, translation of media, advertisement translation, and conference interpretation. You will also have the opportunity to study abroad, which will differentiate you in the international job market.
Diploma Options
Public translator: You will learn to translate documents that can be entrusted by a public audience. For this, the degree promotes a strong formation in linguistic and legal competencies to enable you to translate anything from the diverse variety of official documents one might encounter.
Techno-scientific translator: You will be trained to translate to a high level of fluidity and command of scientific language, including material related to exact and biological sciences and technical information (engineering, ICT, architecture, and similar disciplines).
Literary translator: Offers the unique opportunity to combine a formation in language and translation skills with cultural and literary studies. This profile adapts to the contemporary needs of different companies, organizations, and academic institutions for literary text translation.

OBJECTIVES
Degrees in the Faculty of Humanities and Education fulfill the requirements of the Plan National de Formación Docente de ANEP (‘National Plan for the Formation of Teachers’) as well as providing a modern education to teachers and professors at university level.
COURSE CURRICULUM
The expected duration of the degree is four years (eight semesters).
The course structure of this degree is based on a credits system with modules in general, specific, elective, and professional practice. The teaching practicals are part of the degree, to that upon graduating individuals can directly enter work in public or private education centers.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
We offer scholarships of up to 80% of total fees in education degrees. The scholarship is awarded for the entirety of the degree, as long as an average grade of 8 is maintained.
DIPLOMA OPTIONS
You can dedicate an additional year to a specialization in English Language and Intercultural Bilingual Education.
The Faculty of Humanities and Education offers students of the degree the possibility to take elective courses in English to prepare for postgraduate studies. Graduates can also apply to the Masters in English Language and Intercultural Bilingual Education (MELBE).
The Degree in Law offers a combination of traditional legal courses/subjects with practical and topical subject areas. The degree lasts 5 years and it is divided into 10 academic semesters. Each year contains two semesters: the first from March until June and the second from August to November.

The US Law Program
The US Law Program is the only one of its kind available in Uruguay and one of the very few in South America that offers a solid understanding of Anglo-Saxon law and the differences between the two major legal systems in the world: Common Law and European Continental Law. With this course, you will be able to work in multinational companies or international organisations, and in Uruguayan law firms that are in permanent contact with foreign clients and lawyers.
Student Profile
With a Public Notary degree from the UM, you will develop as a professional with a solid understanding, confidence in your decisions, and with a legal criterion synchronized with our current times. You will be capable of correctly assessing your clients, interpreting and shaping your efforts to the corresponding legal business. The education you will receive will enable you to make impartial judgements and maintain a criterion of fairness in the protection of all parties’ interests.

Alongside technical tools, the University will teach you fundamental humanistic principles in Ethical and Deontological law, essential to the development of a Notary. Being vested by the State with Public Faith, your statements will be considered a true reflection of reality, a responsibility that every Notary must honor.

Once certified to practice this profession, you can choose to work independently or incorporate into Judicial Power as an Actuary and become an essential collaborator with the Judge.
The School of Communications offers a BA in Communications with minors in Journalism, Film Studies, Corporate Communications, Marketing & Advertising, and Public Opinion and Research.

STUDENT PROFILE
The solid academic training the graduates receive, both theoretical and practical, makes them eligible to work as an independent consultant or to work inside an organization. Some graduates from the School of Communication work as Communications Director, Communications Manager, Media Planner, Publicist, Political Communications Expert, Communication for Development expert, Copy Writer, PR Specialist, Internal Communications Specialist, or as a leader in the movie-making scene, as a Scriptwriter, Movie Producer, Editor, among other key positions.

Our aim is that a law graduate from UM not only has solid legal knowledge but also is able to tackle complex issues in local and international business and economics. Both in the field of international trade and in the business sphere, having a solid understanding of international business and economics helps our UM students understand the reality they are facing in a global context. Length:
This diploma is taken in conjunction with the main degree programme. When the student graduates, he or she obtains this diploma. The diploma is not awarded as an associate degree.
Requirements:
To obtain this diploma, in addition to passing the courses at the Faculty of Law, students must obtain 33 and 30 credits (according to their degree programme) by choosing from a list of courses offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics. Credits obtained at FCEE can also be obtained via elective credits at the Faculty of Law.
DIPLOMA IN ECONOMICS & LAW
Our aim is for a law graduate from UM not only to have solid legal knowledge but also to be able to tackle complex issues in local and international business and economics. Both in the field of international trade and in the business sphere, having a solid understanding of international business and economics helps our UM students understand the reality they are facing in a global context.
