International Students participate excursion in Lavalleja

The students visited the Salto del Penitente and the Natural Reserve of Salus.

The UM Student Life, through the UM's adventurers Club, organized an excursion to the Salto del Penitente on Saturday, the 10th of September. More than just UM students participated in the event; among these, exchange students and local students of the Buddy Program that UM's International Relations organizes could be found. The day included horseback riding, walks in the fresh air, ziplining, and a visit to the National Reserve of Salus.

The UM Buddy Program aims to "godfather" UM students to support exchange students that arrive at the University for periods of either a semester or a year. In this way, the "godfathers," who receive the name of "buddies," help their new foreign friends to better adapt to the UM community, get to know the city directly from a local, talk about shared cultural interests, and share experiences that cultivate internationality for both parties. As part of this program, the buddies and the Department of International Relations organize events with integration as an aim and explore local culture, such as this walk to the Salto del Penitente.
